I get the blues now and then, like most people. But I can usually shake them off by remembering how truly rich I am. Money? Nope..by American standards, I'm not very wealthy at all. But I am an oil baron in terms of intangibles - things that can't be evaluated in terms of dollars. I have the freedom and the mobility to plant flowers in my own yard, and healthy vision so I can admire the beauty of the blossoms. I can eat twice a day or five times if I'm so inclined. My home is warm in the winter and cool in summertime. My family is supportive and loving. I have a network of friends who would give me their last dollar if I were in need. I am rich in faith.
Nobody's life is free from suffering. We all carry hidden heartaches. But when I look at the big picture, I've got the world by the tail. "Better a meal of vegetables where there is love than a fattened calf with hatred." So very true.

Totally true!
ReplyDeleteI agree. Sometimes that idea is what keeps me going.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!!! Sometimes I get down about our situation and then I see someone who is sick (or has a child with a brain tumor) and I'm reminded that our situation is nothing in comparison. I am so blessed and yes, wealthy! Thank you so much for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful words. I feel very lucky right now.
ReplyDeleteaj - this was one of the most moving blogs I have read. You reminded us of how thankful we should all be for just the little things in life that God has given us.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, not every day if perfect, Lord knows I have had many of them, but now matter what my children and friends are always there for me. I am thankful for all my Bbest friends also!
I heard a saying, I think it was on NPR, that said "There is always someone who is worse off than you." Which is sad, but true. I have clean water to drink, plenty of food, good health and an amazing husband and family that love me. When I look at it that way, I'm doing pretty darn good!
ReplyDeleteAwesome blogpost AJ!
ReplyDeleteTis true tis true. Sometimes what we want is so far off from what we really need.
ReplyDeletei think these things are easily forgotten or clouded by the hardships we endure
ReplyDeletesometimes the best medicine is to sit back and appreciate the things that arent going wrong!
